Weddings Swellendam Photography
I was having screen calibrating issues when I saw a call coming in from Brett’s wife. That’s strange I thought, but since I was busy with a Spyder performing colour tests on my screen, I couldn’t pick up. I had a family shoot on that afternoon, and quickly listened to the message Ronel left before I got out of the car to do this shoot. It was hot in the car, but I all of a sudden became ice cold! Brett has been one of the photographers at Germinate Photography since early 2010. I learned how his car got hit by a train earlier that day. He was in ICU and doctors were still trying to see where and how bad he was hurt. Awful News! (Now try to do a family shoot after news like that!)
I quickly phoned Ronel and learned that he had broken 5 ribs, cracked a vertebrae, a few big scars and his lung was damaged. But he was “lucky” man to be alive! Thank God! Even in this terrible ordeal, Brett asked Ronel to phone me to say that he was supposed to do a wedding the Saturday … and probably would not be able to do it :). This guy!!
I phoned Wimpie & Lize on Thursday morning and explained the situation. I had the Saturday open (last one till Christmas!) and offered them my services. I am glad they understood and am blessed that they accepted! It was a wonderful wedding at a brand new setting 12 kms outside of Swellendam (it’s so new, it doesn’t even have a name yet … we called it “Thys se Plek” after the owner on the day. What a place! And what a couple … I loved spending time with them and their families & friends. I am sure the photos will portray their joy!
Brett is in still a lot of pain, but at home and recovering. I am so glad he is OK.
Photographers and all people out there driving – please take care, be alert and stay alive! Life is beautiful and I will continue to capture her beauty as long as I am given. May I celebrate life with you soon.
