Let me share a secret. When I was much younger, the most times I thought about photography was when I was out running in the mountains. My wish was that there would be someone passionate / mad enough to carry all their gear up mountains and capture me as I ran freely in Montagu’s spectacular mountains. To be honest, half of it was probably to see if my calf muscles showed up when I ran … they were definitely not around when I stood in front of shoe shop mirrors pretending to look at new shoes. :) But I had to let the dream go as I got older. The calf muscle man search would be abandoned and lost forever …

So I had to become something else. I became the passionate / mad guy with the gear.

You can guess how excited I was when Regardt & Antonette asked me to do their wedding. Regardt is now a Kwela celebrity (he was on the show on Tuesday!) with their Zanzibar Circumnavigation on Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs). I have run into him a few times at the Crazy Store Mountain Challenge and knew this guy has serious potential for an adventure shoot. Antonette did extremely well and both of them enjoyed the workout. Here is a few shots from before, during and after the Lion’s Head Trail run. Assistant Learning Program

Some of you might not know this, but we have a program at Peartree Photography where we train up photographers. The Assistant Learning Program (ALP) has been running since 2008 and have produced some top professional photographers currently making a living and name for themselves through Wedding Photography.

I have been responding to various emails the past 9 months telling eager upcoming photographers that we will probably start the application process at the end of January 2012. Thank you for your willingness to learn and for being so keen to be part of ALP. Last year we had 29 applicants. By the amount of emails I have received this year, it seems like we will have much more in 2012!

Although the ALP has been great so far, I have a continuous need to do things a bit different and more efficient. It is the end of January and the new plans are still being drafted. The best I can do at the moment is to tell you continue to watch the Peartree Blog and Peartree Facebook Page for updates on this. With my current workload though, do not expect something soon I’m afraid …

ALP has so much proven potential, I would rather want to have everything well thought through than to just continue with the same recipe. I ask for your patience and continuous support.

The Karoo is very close to my heart. Part of it might be because I grew up in the Little Karoo. The beauty of these mountains and spaces defined me. But the real Karoo is different. Here I walk barefoot. Here in the emptiness, I find fullness. Here and in the mountains is where I do not speak . Here is where I hear.

Fanie and Delene had a plaas wedding on the Grootdriefontein bos & skeurhokke close to Murraysburg. There is a faithful fountain that feeds the thirsty soil to a lushes piece of land that symbolises the growth these two have experienced. There is a dam that serves as a source and oasis to more than the wild tortoises that leaves their spoor in the thick mud as they faithfully make their way to the water at sunset. There is more than the eye can see and the lens can ever capture. But on this day, this was my effort to capture beauty, love, commitment and covenant in the barren wildness in the heart of our country.

Thank you Fanie & Delene for doing me the pleasure to invite me close to my heart. I hope these images will grow close to yours and others too.

For the past 3 years, I have had the privilege to shoot the first Beloftebos wedding of the year. It is always an immense joy. The vast spaces, the anointed forest, the easy-to-find character and Beloftebos-type-of-people’s pure joy makes every session here unique. Dries & Laura brought their own UK touch to the Overberg bos that really complimented each other. I loved it! And as I told the couple on the evening – the two of them really impressed me with their solid and lovely character. D&L – it has been lovely to meet you and walk this road with you. May it continue into the future.

Enjoy another uniquely fresh session – with a one of a kind couple – at this awesome venue.

I have had so many requests for more photos from this Paarl wedding at Palmiet Valley Estate, that I just couldn’t keep it back much longer.

Lucas & Winonah - erg bedankt voor een ongelooflijk mooie dag samen met jullie hier in Afrika. Ik hebzomaar mijn jaar op een hoogtepunt afgesloten door u af te nemen. Ik zie uit naar jullie gauw weer te zienbij jullie vrienden van de bruiloften in Nederland:) (En ik hoop Google Translate heeft dit recht vertaaldvoor mij!). Succes voor jullie toekomst!

I always say this, but I love shooting at Beloftebos. There is just so much character, space, options, feeling … and awesome staff! Mix in Chris (alias Cheesa), Beartrice and their fam & friends, and you get something like this on a Monday just before Christmas.

Dankie julle – dit was great om deel te wees van jul exciting dag. Alles van die beste – ek is seker ek sien julle weer een van die dae.

When I turned professional a few years ago, I decided to specialise in the art of capturing people naturally in their natural environments – Natural Environmental Portraiture.
Nothing can be more perfect for us then to capture Caroline on this amazing farm where she grew up. This was the first wedding at Thelema Farm and like Caroline mentioned “no pressure Wil!”. I hope we managed to capture the essence of this beautiful piece of earth and her people at the foot of Simonsberg.
Next time I take my sons to climb the mountain again, I will be sure to approach it from this side with my new contacts Before then though, I’ll be back to buy more of their top wines. I encourage you to do the same – it is top top class!

My 200th Full Wedding (heehaaa!) was of this wonderful couple close to my whole family’s hearts. I have known Dawid’s legend family for years and have tapped into their wisdom many times before. This is something I am very grateful for. Franchette and I have shared a few unique experiences like this one. She is a upcoming make up artist (amongst many other creative things) and did a great job at 0200 in the morning for this couple.

Adri and I also have been asked by our church to walk the road with these two in the first couple of years of marriage – a privilege we feel honoured to pursue. I am sure we will learn from one another.

So, here we go – a few more shots from this very special day. Enjoy.
