Just a short preview of my time in Ethiopia on the way back from Italy. I was commissioned for work in Addis Ababa, stumbled upon a few weddings and attempted a small personal project in Lalibela.

Rough Guide to Italy & Ethiopia

It was a late January afternoon in a bitterly cold London. The year was 2000. I had just left the continent I love and were adapting to a new climate, culture & country. I wasn’t doing well. I was living in a house with 7 other ZA’s, had a job as a supply teacher ( and already hated it), haven’t officially earned any £’s yet and couldn’t braai or make a fire when I wanted to. Did I mention I was in a bad place?

I entered my teenage girl phase. I needed to do something to feel better. I didn’t think. I randomly walked into one of the thousand Regent Street Technology shops and managed to spent all the money I had on a Nikon F60 with 2 kit lenses.

The bitter sweet of a dream come true. I hardly had enough money to get back on the red line to my shack in Leytonstone. Not even to mention not being able to buy no name brand fish fingers for supper. I lost a few pounds. I walked a bit more than the average Londoner.

Looking back, this here was one of the sweetest moments of my life …

It was my camera that accompanied me on a number of adventures during my teenage girl stage. We travelled through Africa & Europe. We saw oceans together, ancient ruins, high mountains and beautiful people. And it was my camera that helped me to escape to a place where I could find myself again. To move from a teenage girl to a man. From playing to earning a living. From mundane to supernatural. And still, more than 11 years later, the story continues …

I will try to post as much as I can during the next two weeks. My Blog, Facebook, Twitter – all will be utilised to share this amazing time before me. Feel free to join me on this journey.

Wow – what a year it was! Thank you to all my lovely clients, word of mouthers, loyal blog followers, colleagues, family and friends. I have said it before, but I only seem to get AMAZING PEOPLE to photograph in AMAZING ENVIRONMENTS! Thank you all – you make me look good!

I didn’t want to steal the thunder of Stephan & Marguerite 2 weeks ago. But I guess no one will blame me for being a proud daddy. Elih did so well as the Ring Bearer on the day – I almost forgot to take photos of the couple’s ceremony after this episode! :)

So, a new ADD ON to the Peartree Packages for the time being:

Trip 2010

Yip, we are back and ready for the season after a great 3 week holiday! The Canadian Rockies and Scottish Highlands were a real treat with my family and we had great adventures together. So many of you have been bugging us for pics, that I’ve put together 50 in the lightbox gallery below. Enjoy! And feel free to comment us if something catches your eye.

We are starting our 2010-2011 Wedding Season with a highlight … photographing the wedding of Stephan (one of the photographers I have been mentoring the past two years) on 4 September (tomorrow!). Come have a look on Monday what we have managed with some great new equipment invested to continually improve our product to you. It is good to be back!

Perfect Ending – Beautiful Start

It is just after 11pm on 30 June 2010. It is the last hour of the 2009-2010 Wedding Season according to the way we look at a it at Peartree Photography. And I am overjoyed to share that by the grace of God …

it has been a record year for both Peartree & Germinate Photography (our sister company)
we’ve had a 100% happy Wedding Client rate (unless we missed something somewhere that we’re not currently aware of!)
I have just finished the last bit of editing on my final wedding for the season … it’s all done!
we managed to stick to ALL our deadlines during the whole season
we haven’t had one double booking to date
I still absolutely L O V E every aspect of what I do, &
(most importantly) I’m still happily married, fitter than ever and my boy loves his daddy to bits

From tomorrow onwards, we will be operating in the 2010-2011 Wedding Season. All I can say is … BRING IT ON!

I motivated myself to first finish all my editing, before I post the photos below. Welcome to change at Peartree … a bit of family, relaxing, friends, experiences and emotions from the last couple of weeks. Speed up the Internet & Turn up the Volume! heeehaaa!
