Wedding Wolwedans Boulders Camp, Namibrand National Park, Namibia
I’m typing this from the back of the 400+ yr Kerk aan Zee at Muiderberg close to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. A beautiful setting. I am tagging along as the Sijm Family is preparing for their son’s Wout’s wedding in this special place tomorrow. Outside, you overlook a huge lake that is 5m under sea level. They say that 50 years ago it was just water. Now a whole lakeside development fills your horizons with dedicated swim and kitesurfing areas in the foreground. Everything is wet, green and flat.
I probably can’t get anything more different to what I am about to tell you about – an absolute contrast to what I have experienced back on my continent a few weeks ago. I want to tell you about a special place in the Namibrand desert. A place two Ozzies specifically chose and eloped to with literally the whole world as options. This magic place is Wolwedans. And I am here to tell you they have chosen so well …
I’ve had the privilege to visit most of the camps at Wolwedans before. One of these kept alluring me – the secluded & opulent Boulder Camp. I’ve seen photos and heard rumours, but nothing could prepare me for this absolute splendour. Air, sky, drama and silence – the fullness of wonder filling every empty space. My kind of place to shoot.
I had a great time with Alan & Karen. What a great couple. We had sundowners on the boulders, breakfast on the dunes and even climbed a mountain. Below you can share in this lovely couple’s most special day. I have been so privileged to experience it all in person. Thanks you thank you thank you.
