What a full weekend! It was one of those travel experiences where I don’t have all the words to tell the story. Luckily the pictures will narrate it for you.
Leon & Agnes are two lovely people. Friends and family travelled from all over the globe to celebrate with them between red sand dunes in the heart of the Kalahari. I felt extremely privileged and thankful to have been chosen by them to document such a special occasion.
Bagatelle has a spacious Cheetah sanctuary. And that was where I headed off first for my scouting early the Saturday morning. I wanted to meet Flash – the largest cheetah I will probably ever see. The local cheetah whisperer – Gorän Lindström – took me around. After asking many questions and observing Flash’s behaviour, I told Göran what I had in mind. We arranged a time to meet later that afternoon and decided to take the chance. I continued scouting …
Agnes and her son arrived on horseback at the dune ceremony. To add to the Kalahari experience, they were lead by two proud San men called Boom and Meerkat. They did an amazing job. After the vows and numerous group photos, I looked at my watch. We only had roughly 45min before sunset. I weighed up the risk compared to time available for the shoot and to cover the disstances, but Leon was adamant – first stop will be Flash!
I am so glad we did it. Flash was a star and the couple fearless. I asked our kind driver Felix to point a B1 at the scene and the rest is history. With the salt pan for sunset, I was a satisfied photographer observing and capturing the celebrations around the campfire in the Lapa that evening.
Thank you Leon, Agnes, Ettiene and Angela for your trust in me to do this. May we see more of one another again in the near future. All the best till me meet again.
